04Questions
About Path 05.
What are advanced quant methods in investing?
Advanced quant methods are the statistical and machine learning tools used to research rules for picking stocks. Path 5 covers statistical foundations, time series analysis, machine learning for alpha, alternative data in India and out-of-sample testing.
How do I avoid overfitting a model?
Test the rule on data it was not built on, and count how many things you tried. Module 5.5 covers walk forward testing, hold out periods and the best Sharpe you can find in pure noise, and Module 5.3 covers leakage and why simple models usually hold up better.
Is Path 5 suitable for beginners?
Not usually. Path 5 is rated Expert, and it opens with statistical foundations: fat tails, p values, multiple testing and how many years a Sharpe ratio needs. Beginners should start with Paths 1 and 2, which give the vocabulary used across the curriculum.
